How to Hang a Skateboard on the Wall (Without Drilling the Deck)

A great deck graphic belongs on the wall, not under your feet or in a closet. The problem is that the most common way to hang one, screwing straight through the board, leaves permanent holes in the art. Here's how to display a deck so it looks clean, stays secure, and comes down in one piece whenever you want to ride it.

Why not just screw through the deck?

You can, and plenty of people do. But every screw leaves a hole in the graphic that never goes away. On a deck you love, a limited release, or a board signed by a rider, that's a real loss. The good news is you don't have to drill the board at all.

Your options, compared

• Screws through the deck. Cheap and simple, but it puts holes in the art and shows hardware on the graphic.
• Hardware through the truck holes. Every deck already has eight truck holes, so this adds no new ones. The downside is that bolts or standoffs sit on top of the graphic.
• Adhesive hooks or strips. No drilling in the deck, but they can peel paint or finish when they come off, and they aren't made to hold a board long term.
• Leaning on a ledge or shelf. No hardware on the board at all, but it takes up shelf space and can slide or get knocked over.
• Nose and tail brackets. One bracket holds the nose, the other holds the tail. The screws go into the wall, the board just sits in the brackets, and nothing touches the graphic.

For a deck you care about, brackets that hold the ends are the cleanest option: no holes, no hardware on the art, and the board lifts out whenever you want it.

How to hang it, step by step

1. Pick the spot. Eye level usually looks best. Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades graphics over time.
2. Check what's behind the wall. Screw into a stud if you can. If not, use drywall anchors rated for the weight.
3. Mark the length. Hold the deck where you want it and mark the wall at the very top of the nose and the very bottom of the tail.
4. Mount the bottom bracket first. Line it up with your bottom mark, check it's level, and screw it to the wall.
5. Set the deck and mark the top. Stand the tail in the bottom bracket, then mark where the top bracket needs to go so it fits snugly over the nose.
6. Mount the top bracket and seat the deck. Screw the top bracket in, then slide the board into place.

Tips for a great looking deck wall

• Hanging several decks? Keep the gaps between them even, and line up the tops, not the bottoms, since decks vary in length.
• Vertical works best for a single deck. A row of vertical decks makes a strong feature wall.
• Dust with a dry microfiber cloth. Skip cleaners on the graphic.
• Keep it away from heaters and humid spots like bathrooms, which can warp the wood.
